FEEL GOOD & DO GOOD with #TravelCooler

Feel Good & Do Good with #TravelCooler

What is #TravelCooler?

Simply put, #TravelCooler is when we leave a destination better than when we arrive, either environmentally, economically or culturally by taking a great care of it.

While some people call it regenerative travel, we call it a cooler way of travel.

Why is it important to you?

  • By taking care of nature, the nature will take care of you.
  • Being sustainable is scientifically proven to improve your life quality & productivity.
  • Ensuring that your children and their children can still experience the beautiful earth like you do today.

What is #TravelCooler for Climate?

#TravelCooler for climate means traveling climate friendly. One of the main goals of #TravelCooler is to help decelerating climate change by decarbonizing tourism & travel.

What is #TravelCooler for Climate?

#TravelCooler for climate means traveling climate friendly. One of the main goals of #TravelCooler is to help decelerating climate change by decarbonizing tourism & travel.

Why is it important?

8% of global carbon emissions is produced from tourism, so we need to rethink the way we travel by travelling cooler.

What do carbon emissions do?

Carbon emissions trap the heat inside our earth instead of releasing it. The more carbon emissions we generate, the hotter the earth becomes – this leads to climate change.

What if the earth goes hotter?

Right now, we are already experiencing the imbalance caused by a slightly hotter earth; unexpected change of seasons, forest fires, sea level rise, coral bleaching, drought and crop failures!

And when the earth gets even too hot in 2030… let’s just say we will enter the point of no return where the earth can only get worse and all the environmental, social and economical damage cannot be reversed.

How to fix this?

Easy. Warming earth is caused by too much carbon emissions. The solution is to reduce our current and future carbon emissions, and put the carbon emissions we have in the sky back into the earth!

For travelers, our carbon emissions mostly come from flights and other transport, food, activities and accommodation! So there are many rooms for improvement!

How to #TravelCooler

Plan your transport

and that is also one of the easiest thing that we can control in planning our trip.
That's why knowing the carbon emissions generated by different type of vehicles is important.
Transportation (1)
Plane 23310gCO2e
Small car 15630gCO2e
Motorcycle 11360gCO2e
Transit bus 10510gCO2e
Train 3690gCO2e
Tour bus 2840gCO2e
Ferry 1990gCO2e

*1.000 gram/CO2 = 1 Kg/CO2

*Emissions / 100 km per person

4

Hotel

(Average emission: 31kg of carbon/guest/night)

Things to consider:
- How many people do you bring?
- How large is the floor area?
- How is their heating system?
- How is the density load of the hotel?
(e.g. it is more crowded during the holidays)
5

Hostel

(Average emission: 7.8kg of carbon/guest/night)

They have on average a 75% lower climate impact per guest compared to the average hotel!
6

Carbon Neutral

(In some cases, can evem emit 0 carbon dioxide!)

The resulting carbon emissions are insignificant and negligible compared to conventional accommodations.

For example:
- Accommodation at relatives’ and friends’ homes
- Hiring rooms via Airbnb (as you can filter and choose carbon-neutral accommodations)
- Accommodation in motorhomes, caravans, tents, night trains, or ferry cabins

Food

Eat locally sourced food.

Local food ingredients don’t produce much carbon emissions from being transported!
You can ask a simple question like, ”where did you get the ingredients from?”

null

Electricity

Save electricity by:

1) unplugging your charger when you are finished
2) turning off the lights, TV and AC when not in use
3) having less hot shower and
4) only changing the towel when needed!

null

Transport

Whenever you can:

Walk, or…
Use public transport, or…
Electric transportation!

Offset

There is no such thing as perfect and that is totally okay. In the end, tourism and travel will still generate carbon emissions. This is where you neutralize!

Neutralizing is the act of putting back the carbon emissions generated into the earth by supporting any project that captures carbon emissions. And our favorite is mangrove conservation, because mangroves can absorb up to 10 times more carbon than terrestrial forests!

See examples on how to neutralize below!
