Overview

Experience the magical village of Lampung all in a short period of time. This trip package offers a wonderful combination of volunteering and fun. Includes volunteering time with local children, mingling in locals’ daily life, and immersing in the local culture.

This fully guided program is spread over two weeks and gives participants great insight into the culture, traditions the way of life of the village through a wide range of activities, and get ready to meet the amazing indigenous elephants of Way Kambas!

Braja Harjosari is a village located on the border of the Way Kambas National Park area, a village that is successful in the ecotourism sector. Braja Harjosari Village is one of the supporting villages for Way Kambas National Park, East Lampung which has a long history of conflict between elephants and humans.  Braja Harjosari community-based ecotourism initiation sparked after a continuous human-wildlife conflict between the Way Kambas National Park wildlife and the villagers. After the success of the initiation of Braja Harjosari community-based ecotourism, now the villagers can already feel the changes in so many aspects such as the economy and environmental cleanliness.

Environmental and Conservation Efforts

The care that the Braja Harjosari community show for their surroundings can be seen in their conserving of Way Kambas National Park. Although, in the last 20 years, there has been a steady increase in conservation efforts. Two significant conservation efforts are important to note- these being the Sumatran Rhino Sanctuary, and the Elephant Conservation Centre.

In addition to this, a Braja Harjosari local known as Bapak Suhadak was honoured with the prestigious National Kalpataru Award in 2021. This award recognised Bapak Suhadak’s amazing efforts to preserve the local environment.
