Lombok Saifana Organic Farm Trip Package

Learn to live sustainably and grow your own food from a community farm in North Lombok.

Overview

The food forest is a perennial system in which more than 80% of the plants and trees are edible. It is inspired by the forest in the sense that plants and trees all grow harmoniously together at a high density. Every layer of the system is occupied by a specific crop. On top trees are grown at different heights, coconut trees are emergents, mango trees as a high canopy, longan as a lower canopy and below that shrubs and roots that can thrive with less sunlight. At Saifana, our newly planted food forest is slowly developing and we are learning which plants are best suited for our region.

Spend a night in one of our five wooden bungalows overlooking our garden. Enjoy the simplicity of our rooms, all built by local artisans using natural materials. All the buildings are earthquake-proof and designed to have the smallest impact on our environment. They are all equipped with solar-panels. Try our homemade sourdough breads, vegan pancakes, banana crumble, fresh fruits… Everything we serve is made from scratch at the farm, and you’ll have the opportunity to try a selection of our best homemade jams and nut butters. Enjoy lunch and dinner that is specially made using our seasonal ingredients harvest from our garden. Come and try our flavorful plant-based creations inspired by local recipes. We proudly select quality & locally sourced ingredients.

Activity Highlight

What’s Included

Direct Impact

  • Food sovereignty. We first started setting up gardens so villagers could grow and provide fresh and healthy food to their families. We also wanted to explore a barter system with a common Lumbung (granary) where the villagers can exchange their harvests or goods.
  • Sustainable farming. We introduced natural farming, a practice where gardening means working with nature, not against it.
  • Trash Hero Bayan. A weekly voluntary clean-up activity to raise awareness on environment and plastic waste.
  • Solar panels bungalow
